It is a common occurrence these days to be held up in the airport screening line because someone forgot to remove their water bottle or shampoo bottle or forgot to put their laptop in a separate container. But increasingly, screeners for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) are detaining travelers for forgetting to remove their guns.

New York residents might benefit from learning about the different classifications of homicide. In certain cases, homicide may be considered a legal act. Otherwise, these actions may be treated as murder by manslaughter. Killing in defense of another person or as a means of self-defense may be described as a justified homicide. Whether or not the act is justified depends on whether state laws permit lethal force for acts of self-defense.

Before Rudy Giuliani became the Mayor of New York City, he was the hard-charging U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Manhattan. According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, a 50-year-old woman who was applying for a driving job is facing a DWI charge after a sobriety test revealed her to be severely impaired. The incident reportedly happened on Dec. 17 in Fort Edward.

On Dec. 4, a New York associate of an international arms dealer who was convicted on conspiracy and wire fraud charges was sentenced to prison. While the sentencing guidelines initially called for a prison sentence of seven to nine years, the U.S. district judge sentenced the man to five years as a result of medical problems.

The old way of dealing with people found in possession of marijuana has been slowly changing, not only in Colorado and Washington, but in New York City as well. In a historic change, a policy went into effect last week where city cops will stop arresting people on low-level marijuana charges. Instead, if you are caught with less than 25 grams of weed, you will be given a ticket to appear in court (This policy will not apply to people observed smoking on the street. They will still be arrested). If found guilty of the non-criminal violation, a first-time offender will face a fine of $100.

A man is facing charges of criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree murder in connection with the stabbing death of his girlfriend on Nov. 8. Authorities discovered a 68-year-old woman with multiple stab wounds at a Queens apartment when they responded to an emergency phone call. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel. Following an initial investigation, the woman's boyfriend was taken into police custody.

From a fist fight between two patrons at a bar to an altercation outside a home that ends in one individual pulling out a gun and shooting and injuring another, criminal charges related to assault and battery are likely to follow. When it comes to prosecuting and defending assault and battery cases, much depends on an individual's intent and justification and the resulting injuries to others.

A man in New York state has been taken into custody after allegedly trying to eat the results of his DWI test. According to police reports, the man was stopped for speeding on the highway around 5:30 a.m. on Nov. 2. The officer on the scene believed that he was intoxicated and subsequently detained him.
