It is a common occurrence these days to be held up in the airport screening line because someone forgot to remove their water bottle or shampoo bottle or forgot to put their laptop in a separate container. But increasingly, screeners for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) are detaining travelers for forgetting to remove their guns.
Before Rudy Giuliani became the Mayor of New York City, he was the hard-charging U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Manhattan. His legacy as US Attorney continues to be his efforts to hold individuals responsible for crimes committed on Wall Street. He arrested and convicted many well-known traders and financiers of the time. In fact, by 1988, Giuliani had brought five times as many insider-trading cases as had ever been brought before in his district.
According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, a 50-year-old woman who was applying for a driving job is facing a DWI charge after a sobriety test revealed her to be severely impaired. The incident reportedly happened on Dec. 17 in Fort Edward.
On Dec. 4, a New York associate of an international arms dealer who was convicted on conspiracy and wire fraud charges was sentenced to prison. While the sentencing guidelines initially called for a prison sentence of seven to nine years, the U.S. district judge sentenced the man to five years as a result of medical problems.
The old way of dealing with people found in possession of marijuana has been slowly changing, not only in Colorado and Washington, but in New York City as well. In a historic change, a policy went into effect last week where city cops will stop arresting people on low-level marijuana charges. Instead, if you are caught with less than 25 grams of weed, you will be given a ticket to appear in court (This policy will not apply to people observed smoking on the street. They will still be arrested). If found guilty of the non-criminal violation, a first-time offender will face a fine of $100.
Getting arrested for any crime in New York is a troubling experience. However, if you have been arrested for a felony, you have much greater concerns that just the arrest itself.
A man in New York state has been taken into custody after allegedly trying to eat the results of his DWI test. According to police reports, the man was stopped for speeding on the highway around 5:30 a.m. on Nov. 2. The officer on the scene believed that he was intoxicated and subsequently detained him.
