29 Jul Woman taken into custody after crashing into a pole
A 31-year-old New York woman was taken into custody after she crashed her car into a pole on Springville Road in Hampton Bays. Southampton police say that the car was the only one involved in the accident and that no one was injured. After making contact with the woman, police determined that she was under the influence of alcohol.
That is when the driver was taken into custody on several charges. In addition to driving under the influence, she faces charges of failing to maintain her lane and failing to submit to a breath test. The latter two charges are classified as violations while the DUI charge is considered a misdemeanor.
Drivers who are charged with DUI may face several legal, personal and professional penalties. Legal penalties may include a stint in jail, a fine and a loss of driving privileges. If convicted, a driver may have to install an ignition interlock device as a condition of regaining his or her license in the future. As losing a license or having to adhere to other conditions to drive may cause interruptions to an individual’s life, it may be worthwhile to talk with an attorney. An attorney may be able to get charges dismissed.
This may be done by casting doubt upon or having evidence suppressed. It may also be possible to dispute witness testimony from police or others as well as dispute the results of a blood or breath test as part of a DUI defense. If successful, it may be possible for a driver to avoid some or all penalties related to a conviction.
