13 Oct Man attempts to eat DWI test results
A man in New York state has been taken into custody after allegedly trying to eat the results of his DWI test. According to police reports, the man was stopped for speeding on the highway around 5:30 a.m. on Nov. 2. The officer on the scene believed that he was intoxicated and subsequently detained him.
The man was then transported to the Tarrytown barracks for processing, which included the printed results of a Breathalyzer test. While the results were printing, the man reached for the paperwork and allegedly attempted to ingest it. It was not specified how much of the evidence he was able to consume prior to being stopped.
As a result of his alleged attempt to tamper with evidence as well as his initial grounds for incarceration, the man is facing charges for multiple crimes, including obstructing governmental administration, criminal tampering and the original charge of driving while intoxicated. Police have not released information regarding whether he was later released on bail or if he has been remanded to the local jail.
There are several defense options available to people who are facing charges for driving while intoxicated. An experienced attorney may be able to conduct an investigation and determine if there were any illegal police actions taken. In most cases, authorities have to show that they had reasonable cause to search a car or conduct a sobriety test. It is also possible that there may have been other causes for erratic behavior that can be presented to the courts. When facing charges for drunk driving, an individual should meet with an attorney to discuss the possible options available for an effective defense.
