MAN ACCUSED OF FATALLY STABBING BLACK MAN

It was reported on March 22 that a 28-year-old man was taken into custody after he was accused of fatally stabbing another man. The accused man, who traveled from Baltimore, reportedly told authorities that he committed the stabbing because he hated black men.

The fatal stabbing occurred on March 20. The victim was identified as a 66-year-old black man after he entered a police precinct bleeding from multiple stab wounds. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Authorities released a surveillance video and a picture of the person accused of committing the crime. The man then turned himself in to the New York City Police Department after seeing the images.

When questioned, the man stated that he had traveled to New York City to commit the crime as he wanted to generate attention. On March 20, he had been wandering the street with a concealed 26-inch sword under an overcoat. He stabbed the man after finding him digging around through trash. The police stated that they believed the accused man had intentions on attacking other though he opted to turn himself in to police instead.

Violent crimes have severe legal consequences that may include a lengthy prison sentence in addition to a criminal record. Depending on the circumstances, a criminal law attorney may protect the person’s civil rights while they are going through the trial. If an accused person confessed to the crime without the attorney present, the attorney may argue that the person confessed under duress, especially if there is evidence that the person was not involved in committing the crime.
