AARON HERNANDEZ IDENTIFIED AS SHOOTER IN 2012 INCIDENT

New York NFL fans may be interested to learn on Dec. 20, it was reported that former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez was identified as the person involved in the killing of two men. The survivor who identified the former player was reportedly riding in the back seat of the vehicle where the deaths occurred.

Prosecutors alleged that Hernandez was in a Boston club in July 2012. He allegedly followed a vehicle that was carrying five people after a bump on the dance floor caused him to spill a drink. He allegedly leaned out of his car and opened fire when the car was at a stoplight. The survivor stated that, following the shooting, he got out of the vehicle to check his friends and was able to get a look at the shooter. He said that both individuals died before emergency responders could reach them.

Hernandez pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder for the two shooting deaths. The former football player is serving a life sentence as he was previously convicted in 2013 for killing a semipro football player.

People who have been accused of committing these types of violent crimes will likely face lengthy prison sentences if the prosecutor is able to obtain a conviction. Accordingly, having the representation of a criminal defense attorney from the outset can be advisable. When the case is largely based upon eyewitness testimony, for example, there are a variety of strategies that can be employed to shed doubt on a particular person’s veracity.
