MAN ACCUSED OF FATAL SHOOTING THAT LEFT 2 DEAD

On July 5, New York authorities reported that a person who was suspected of being involved in a fatal shooting that left two dead was taken into custody. The shooting incident occurred on June 23 at about 4:45 a.m. on Cleveland Street near Hegeman Avenue in Brooklyn.

The 33-year-old accused man and a second person allegedly walked up to the vehicle and started shooting. The two individuals, who were identified as a 27-year-old man and a 23-year-old Florida woman, were reportedly shot while they were sitting in a Dodge Durango. It appeared that the man was the intended target. He was found sitting in the driver’s seat while the woman was in the passenger seat.

The accused man was ultimately charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon. He reportedly has an extensive criminal history dating back to 2001. He had been previously taken into custody 38 times on assault and robbery accusations. He was arraigned on July 6 and was scheduled to return to court on July 11. It was not known if the other person who was with him during the shooting was being considered as an accomplice.

The legal consequences that those who are accused of committing these types of violent crimes face if a conviction is obtained can include a lengthy prison sentence. If they have a criminal history, the consequences could potentially be even more severe than they would have been otherwise. A criminal law attorney can in some cases mitigate the consequences by asserting that the defendant was acting in self-defense.
