Michael Jaccarino is a former prosecutor and proven trial lawyer, focusing primarily on providing top notch criminal defense to individuals who are being investigated or who have been charged with committing a crime in State or Federal Court. Michael’s experience on both sides of the courtroom sets him apart from others and gives him a unique perspective on how to obtain the best outcome for his clients. He has used his investigatory and courtroom trial experience to obtain “not guilty” jury verdicts, dismissals through motion practice, and favorable pleas by successfully negotiating with prosecutors.
Michael worked as a prosecutor in the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office for five years, where he honed his trial skills as an Assistant District Attorney. Michael quickly ascended the ranks and was the first prosecutor in his class to be promoted to the position of Senior Trial Attorney. During his tenure with the District Attorney’s Office, Michael handled thousands of cases and conducted in excess of 30 trials and evidentiary hearings against some of the finest attorneys in the nation. He developed his advocacy and courtroom skills by trying and convicting some of the most violent offenders in Brooklyn. Michael was also responsible for presenting in excess of 100 cases to the Grand Jury, overseeing complex investigations, and drafting and arguing motions and appeals.
After leaving the District Attorney’s Office, Michael joined Aidala, Bertuna & Kamins, where he has successfully utilized the courtroom knowledge that he gained as a prosecutor to effectively defend individuals charged with various offenses, including white collar crimes related to forgery, falsifying business records, identity theft, money laundering, Medicare fraud, wire fraud, bank fraud, commercial bribery and grand larceny, as well as violent and narcotics related offenses such as homicide, drug possession and sale, assault, weapons possession, reckless endangerment, harassment, and driving while intoxicated.
Michael currently focuses his practice on defending those charged with a wide-array of Federal white-collar offenses and investigations and traditional criminal matters in New York State Courts.
Michael is admitted in the State of New York, Second Judicial Department, as well as the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
Michael is a member of the Brooklyn Bar Association, Kings County Criminal Bar Association, Bay Ridge Lawyers Association, and the Columbian Lawyers Association. He is the Vice Chair of the Brooklyn Bar Association Criminal Law Committee and a Board Member for the Kings County Criminal Bar Association
Michael is also assigned by the State of New York, First Judicial Department, as a member of the 18b Felony Panel – a group of private lawyers who defend certain indigent individuals that have been criminally charged by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, and he is also a member of the Second Judicial Department 18b Screening Committee.
